20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Could Save Franchises

13. Cloverfield 4

One of the all-time most puzzling creative fumbles in the horror space is the failure to create a true franchise out of 2008's fantastic found-footage monster movie Cloverfield.

Despite its enormous success and enduring fandom almost 20 years after the original release, we've had just two modest spin-offs since - 2016's well-received 10 Cloverfield Lane and 2018's mostly-panned The Cloverfield Paradox.

Considering the efficiency of the original film, a franchise should've been a slam dunk for Paramount, though there is a glimmer of hope, given that a fourth Cloverfield was announced back in 2021, with the solid Babak Anvari (Under the Shadow, Hallow Road) tapped to direct.

This new picture will apparently function as a direct sequel to the original Cloverfield while ditching the divisive found-footage style, and if it delivers on its potential, it could finally see the franchise find its identity after clearly struggling to do so for the better part of two decades.
