20 "WTF Did I Just Watch" Horror Sequels

3. Halloween II (2009)

Rob Zombie's Halloween II isn't a very good film on the whole, and yet it's hard not to feel a certain grudging respect for it. This sequel is such a demented and undeniably ambitious excursion, and it's still hard to believe Zombie actually managed to produce something so insane in the studio system.

While it shares its name with 1981's second Halloween flick, the two films have little in common aside from a chase sequence set in a hospital, which turns out to be a dream and actually features future Oscar-nominee Octavia Spencer playing a nurse who gets murdered by Michael Myers. You think that's odd? We're just getting started.

Dr. Loomis (Malcolm McDowell) turns into a fame-hungry bastard who's profiting off Myers' crimes, Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor Compton) is turning into another Michael thanks to a family curse (or something), and Michael Myers spends most of the movie without his mask and having silly visions of his dead mother with a white horse. Speaking of which, this sequel has more dream sequences and visions than a David Lynch movie, and it's all just so damn pretentious.

This is a picture where Weird Al Yankovic cameos as himself on a talk show, and that isn't even the tenth-weirdest thing in it; that really says it all, doesn't it? Once again, it's not that satisfying as a viewing experience, but Rob Zombie does deserve credit for swinging for the fences with such abandon.
