10 Adult Rock Songs That No One Understood As Kids

4. Dirty Harry - Gorillaz

Once the Iraq war started to get underway, a lot of the more militant voices of the rock community had their fair share of stuff to say about it. While the radio may have been populated by the likes of Daughtry around the same time, American Idiot by Green Day became the entry drug for any other rock band to speak their mind of the dangers coming around. Though they may have been reserved for the adults technically, kids weren't let off the hook when it came to Dirty Harry.

Considering Gorillaz was always about having fun, it makes sense that the video reflects this kind of atmosphere, being a dance party in the middle of the desert. The beat is so good that you almost can't make out what the children are singing, which might be a good thing when you realize that they are talking about needing a gun to keep themselves from harm.

Combined on an album meant to soundtrack a journey through the night, Dirty Harry is one of the most understated indictments of the current political system at the time, making a mockery of those who decide to answer with violence first and ask questions later. This might be the spiritual cousin of something like Clint Eastwood, but that doesn't mean the tone hasn't gotten any less dark.
