10 Albums That Were Supposed To Be Great (But Fell Apart)
7. The King of Limbs - Radiohead
It's almost expected for Radiohead to take risks with every single record. Ever since their gigantic success with the pop culture juggernaut OK Computer, these English lads have pretty much made their life's work out of reinventing their idea of music from the ground up every time they go into the studio. The King of Limbs may have been even more darker territory...but the results were far colder than fans probably expected.
Going in the studio to record, Thom Yorke had expressed a desire to move towards more ambient textures, with the goal to create trance-like moments on the album. This intense process even involved the band drafting in another drummer when it came time to deliver the live shows. While you can certainly hear the trance atmosphere they were going for on songs like Bloom, the King of Limbs is something that is more likely to bore you than provide a transcendental musical experience.
Ever since its release, fans have put this towards the bottom of their respective lists, even going so far as to put it in the same category as their grunge sellout debut Pablo Honey. Rather than chalking it up to not caring, this stands out as a record that just had the two halves of a good idea come together with an audible thud. Even though Radiohead have given us enough artistic movements than is expected out of a rock band, this is the one record where those artistic ventures actually got in the way of writing good songs.
