10 Amazing Follow Ups To Masterpiece Albums

2. Iowa - Slipknot

In the wake of the nu metal movement getting more and more chaotic by the month in the late '90s, there were a handful of people that didn't even know what to make of Slipknot in the early days. If anything, this is where a lot of fans tended to cross the line in terms of heavy music, going absolutely mental to songs written by 9 misfits from Iowa donning strange masks whenever they played live. There was something truly disturbing about thar debut album, but that only comes from the dark upbringing going on back home.

Looking to amplify every scary moment of their last record, Iowa is where the band almost reached the point of no return in the studio, going out of their mind on drugs and oftentimes not even speaking to their fellow band members when they were cutting the tracks. As much as the production may have been heavy, you can hear all of that pain on every track here, like creating some of the most insane grooves on songs like The Heretic Anthem or People = Sh*t.

This wasn't just some niche market either, with Iowa's relentless heaviness propelling it to the top of the album charts, making it one of the few albums that features actual masochism to actually make it on Billboard's roster. Like it or not, this was a message loud and clear to anyone who doubted what these guys were capable: Slipknot were here to stay. God help us all.
