10 Amazing Rock Albums We Never Got To Hear

3. Songs From the Black Hole - Weezer

Once Weezer got their first real taste of success, it really started to take its toll on their health. For as many people loved songs like Buddy Holly and Say It Ain't So being played on the radio, it wasn't exactly a walk in the park for the fairly reserved and nerdy guys to suddenly see so much attention. Though Rivers Cuomo channeled all of his insecurities into Pinkerton, there's a good chance we could have gotten more grandiose in its place.

When originally combing through material for the next album, Rivers had envisioned making a rock opera about space travel with the working title Songs From the Black Hole. At the same time, the emotional breakdown that he was having eventually led him to throw the concept out the window in favor of some of the more jaded love songs like the Good Life and El Scorcho.

However, some relics from the Black Hole did end up surviving to the final mix, with Getchoo being one of the frontrunners for the original album. Given the amount of distortion and guitar effects on that track alone, it looked like Weezer could have actually pulled off the impossible by making their magnum opus. Pinkerton might hold up as a classic nowadays but who knows? Maybe the original sci-fi angle would have actually paid off in the long run.
