10 Awesome Rock Bands With Terrible Debut Albums
2. Pablo Honey - Radiohead
Every single Radiohead release that we've gotten since the late '90s has always felt like an event. Although there have definitely been some duds in between (hello, King of Limbs), you can always tell that the band has wanted to push their music forward with every single record they put out. We all have to start somewhere though, and Radiohead originally thought their destiny was in hopping on the grunge bandwagon.
Right around the same time that bands like Nirvana were creating In Utero, Pablo Honey just feels like a collection of decent grunge rock songs that were bound to be forgotten a few years down the line. Though this was responsible with giving the band their first radio single with Creep, every member has done almost everything they can to distance themselves from it, never playing it in concert and Thom Yorke even saying that he hates it.
In between the hits though, you can still see the kind of band that they wanted to be, with songs like Prove Yourself and Anyone Can Play Guitar fitting somewhere between the Smashing Pumpkins and Everclear with the way that the riffs are constructed. Although the next few years had them progressing by leaps and bounds creatively, the band definitely had reason to be scared about possibly becoming a one hit wonder with this album.
