When it comes to music, inspiration can come from many places: people, locations, feelings...what it doesn't usually come from is architecture. Yet Fergie of Black Eyed Peas fame proved all her naysayers wrong in 2006 when she dropped London Bridge as a single from her debut studio album The Dutchess.
Despite some hilariously terrible reviews (one of the more positive responses to the song was written by Andy Kellman of Allmusic, who described the tune as inexplicably asinine) the song sold remarkably well and dominated the 2006 and 2007 radio. Not only did the song chart all over the world, it was number one for several weeks in America and has sold millions of copies since its first release.
With lyrics like it's me, Fergie, the pen, polo and I'm Fergie Ferg, me love you long time the track became as annoying as quickly as it sold, rendering the tune infamously irritating despite its incredible success. Who knew a song about a bridge had the potential to go platinum?
