10 Best Experimental Rock Albums Of All Time
5. Post - Bjork
For all the weird detours that you get from experimental rock, there's usually a certain beauty that comes with it as well. Even though the sounds might not be what you're expecting, the idea of casually taking risks at least sounds intriguing for any musician looking to expand their craft. On her second release though, Bjork almost bent the rules of rock altogether on Post.
Never for a moment do any of these songs sound alike on this album, with Bjork racking every part of her brain to create some of these sounds. While you do hear the odd trip hop beat thrown in here and there, there are a lot more weird moments than you'd expect coming from a pop artist, even going full industrial on the song Army of Me and throwing in random jazz numbers like It's Oh So Quiet.
To say that these songs are just fun to listen would be drastically underselling it. Bjork really seeks out to create different environments with her music, and Post feels like you're being taken on a journey through the universe, all while this woman leads you along for the ride. This could have only come out in the '90s too, since people would have most likely laughed Bjork out of the room if it were to happen in the '60s. The industry is a hard beast to deal with, but if your songs make it to the other side like this, you have the right to do whatever you want.
