Its no secret that Zeppelin wore their early blues influences on their sleeves and were definitely partial to half-inching a melody or two and rearranging it into something totally their own. Here, from their 1969 BBC Sessions, they take the basic gist of Robert Johnsons Travelling Riverside Blues and splash it with kaleidoscopic colours and textures. Pageys harmonious, jingle-jangle slide guitars slither up and down the recording while Plant yelps and screeches delightful filth squeeze my lemon til the juice runs down my leg. Less a cover version and more a hat-tipping tribute to Johnson, Led Zeppelin, nevertheless, make the song their own and it remains one of their grooviest arrangements.
