4. '(Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For?'- From The Boatman's Call
If 'Into My Arms' is a song about loving forever, then '(Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For?' is about the moment, whatever anyone else thinks. Where the music in 'Into My Arms' is wholesome and earnest, the music in '(Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For?' seems almost seedy and insinuates that the song is delving into areas that are less than totally moral. This feeling is backed up by some of the lyrics, which seem to imply infidelity and a willingness to put the moment over any lasting consequence, for as Cave claims in the bridge, "We will know won't we, the stars will explode in the sky/ But they don't do they, stars have their moment, then they die". While the restraint of 'Into My Arms' implies the simplicity of the message, in '(Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For?' it seems to say that there is more to the story than meets the eye- that the singer is not giving you all the details. Such is the genius of the Bad Seeds that they pull each off with equal aplomb.
