10 Best Rock Music Album Closers Of The 2000s

6. Pink Maggit - Deftones (White Pony)

Regularly named as one of the best hard rock albums of the entire decade, 2000's White Pony was the third record to be released by Deftones.

Melding a vast array of musical influences, White Pony expanded Deftones' audience and let everyone know how special they were. With features from Scott Weiland and Maynard James Keenan, there's a lot to like here.

The final track on the album is the longest song Deftones have ever recorded.

Ok, that's a slight lie. The track MX from their second album is technically over 37 minutes long, but that's only because it features a load of silence at the end.

That doesn't count.

Pink Maggit is a seven-and-a-half minute sound exercise in exploring one's fears of going back to school. Vocalist Chino Moreno harshly whispers lyrics about anxiety and not fitting in over the top of a hauntingly jagged guitar crawl.

Then, everything pops off.

The song peaks with an eruption of noise in the middle, as all the worries of its protagonist finally escape. It was a big risk to end an album on such an unconventional note, but it paid off.
