10 Biggest Album Disasters Of All Time

4. Kilroy Was Here - Styx

The public opinion of Styx has always been fairly divided since their heyday. Although they have managed to score some pretty kickass singles at the time with songs like Come Sail Away and Renegade, the dividing line between Tommy Shaw's righteous rock and roll and Dennis DeYoung's grand musical vision is stark whenever you throw on the record. And when you have DeYoung get a bold new vision in his head, you'd better be prepared for some sh*t to hit the fan.

Aiming for one of the most ambitious undertakings they had ever attempted, Kilroy Was Here was supposed to be the album that launched Styx into the next decade, embracing synths while making a comment on the overarching technology that is taking over rock and roll. ...Maybe? As it stands, Kilroy Was Here is still one of the most perplexing albums Styx ever made, with songs that sound like DeYoung twisted the band's arm into the concept instead of letting the music breathe.

Looking back on it, Shaw has still laughed this album out of the room, saying that he couldn't think of any songs about robots. The real failure wasn't really shown until the tour, when fans were subjected to rock and roll theater rather than the show they were promised. Aside from having the usual trappings of any Styx album, this was the one project that just broke up the entire band by the end.
