10 Biggest Unsolved Mysteries In Rock Music History

10. Syd Barrett’s Lost Years

The entire fallout of the Syd Barrett era of Pink Floyd reads more like rock and roll tragedy these days. Although Syd may have been the spirit behind the band’s psychedelic years, his experimentation with drugs got out of hand and led to him spiraling into a worse mental state, forcing the rest of the group to kick him out of the band. For most Floyd fans, that’s where the story ends, but it’s still anyone’s guess as to what happened after that.

Though Syd’s solo career started off promising with a solo album under his belt, the next few years would see him virtually disappear off the face of the Earth, with most people wondering if he ever found the proper help that he needed. The only other time that the Floyd members would ever be in contact with their friend was during the recording of the album Wish You Were Here, where Syd showed up to the sessions with a completely shaved head and was barely recognizable to anyone in the room.

While that meeting at least gave the members of Floyd a chance to talk to Syd again, it would be the last time that they would see him alive, going back into exile for the next 30 years before eventually passing away in the ‘00s. You can easily chalk it up to just mental health problems, but to this day, no one really knows what Syd was up to during that timeframe.
