10 Cheesiest Music Videos Of The 80s
2. Dancing in the Street - David Bowie and Mick Jagger
If the slew of '70s artists had a hard time transitioning to MTV, how the hell were the children of the '60s going to fare any better? Though acts like Hall and Oates may still have been photogenic enough to snag a few spots here and there, how about the guys who looked like they were grandpas trying to act hip with the kids? You could give it a try, but just make sure it doesn't turn out like Dancing in the Street.
Granted, this doesn't seem like too bad an idea in practice, considering that David Bowie already had some '80s credibility coming off of his album Let's Dance. Even Mick Jagger was still the epitome of cool, piloting the Stones to another hit at the time with Start Me Up. When you brings these forces together for a Motown classic though, you get the height of '80s fashion that no one wants to relive.
While Bowie and Jagger definitely have chemistry together, the actual execution is a bit too close for comfort, as they are so damn happy to deliver this song that wasn't necessarily that much of a thought provoking track to begin with. At a time when most artists were looking to go over the top, this is the moment where things reached a ceiling and became just...silly.
