10 Essential Albums From 2019 You Need To Hear

3. Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind

When Slipknot released their stand-alone single "All Out Life" last year, maggots around the globe knew something big was coming. And even though we were expecting great things, the nine still found a way to blow our expectations out of the water.

With We Are Not Your Kind, the band has released an album that is on par with some of their heaviest work. Corey Taylor is shrieking his brains out while still finding time to deliver incredible melodies. The rhythm section of this band helps the songs surge with a brooding intensity before smacking you in the mouth with their percussive attack. The band also found ways to step out of their comfort zone like using chamber music on "Unsainted" and more ethereal sounds on songs like "Spiders."

Given what the band has gone through in recent years with the departure of longtime member Chris Fehn, it's amazing that the group could still put out a record this spellbinding. This album showed the band taking new musical risks without ever sacrificing the heaviness that made them so undeniable back in 1999. Long Live the Knot and open up the pit with this record.
