10 Famous Rock Songs Written So Fast You Won't Believe
3. Sweet Child O’ Mine - Guns N’ Roses
Ever wonder why Slash looks so grumpy in the music video for Sweet Child O' Mine? It's because he's essentially being forced to play a guitar training exercise for millions of people worldwide.
One day, whilst at a jam session, Slash was mucking about with Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler. To make Adler laugh, he started pulling funny faces whilst also playing what he described as a "circus melody." Guitarist Izzy Stradlin overheard the riff and that set in motion the birth of one of rock's all-time great tunes.
According to Slash's autobiography, "within an hour my guitar exercise had become something else." That "something else" was one of the most famous rock songs of all time with millions of worldwide sales and over one billion streams on Spotify.
Has this success made Slash like the song? Absolutely not!
As the icon once remarked, "One of the things that always bugged me about Sweet Child… was that it was an up-tempo ballad, which didn’t fit what Guns N’ Roses was all about as far as I was concerned."
We're sure that the song bugged him all the way to the bank...
