The Man Who Sold The World is Bowie's hard-rock album. That might come as a surprise to those only familiar with its creepy, understated title track; which was, of course, immortalised by Nirvana on their MTV Unplugged sessions. But listen to the rest of the album and it's easy to understand why it may have struck a chord with the volume-fixated Kurt Cobain. She Shook Me Cold is the album at its loosest and rawest. A towering bluesy protopunk workout gives way to a furious nosebleed jam that the uninitiated will swear is the work of Hendrix or, at the very least, Deep Purple. It rocks.
