10 Glorious "Dad Rock" Albums

2. Unplugged - Eric Clapton

As much as they may not like to admit it, not every dad can be the rough and tumble rock and roller forever. For every time that you claim to go to the biker rally every year, you can't keep pretending to be leather clad badass forever. There's nothing wrong with taking things down a notch, especially when it involves one of the greatest players to ever pick up a guitar.

Long after the '60s guitar legend faded from Eric Clapton's career, he had become known as a pop star for the rest of his career. I mean, the last thing that he had made prior to this Unplugged release was songs like Tears In Heaven, which is the dad ballad to end all dad ballads. The beauty of a session like this though is just how stripped down it is, as Eric takes his pop side and merges it with the bluesy rocker that he had always been.

Outside of the more downtempo material you expect out of him, it's amazing to see Slowhand break down Layla to its bare essentials, giving it an entirely new fanbase overnight. There are also the blues traditional songs like Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out, which is probably the best that a bluesman could hope to be in a setting as bare as this. As laid back as something like this can be, this is where dad rock goes when it finally reaches its peak maturity.
