Possibly the most successful entry on this list is J. Coles Born Sinner. J. Cole started to gather momentum when he released The Warm Up in 2009. The song Lights Please won over Jay-Z and many peoples' favourite rap songs of recent times, with its recollection of a disturbing relationship dynamic it features a fantastic balance of intelligent thought and hypocritical sexual desire. Cole has since gone on to make two studio albums with the latest dropping to much critical acclaim last year. What makes this album so great is - again - dark and hypocritical themes from a man who has clearly done wrong in relationships and feels conflicted about it...however he has no intention of changing. Plus J. Cole just has awesome flow. On the opening track Villuminati he manages to both offend and impress, at one point claiming, rather cleverly that anybody who has accused he and his label mates of being in the illuminati must be...well, lets just say a little slow. Young black millionaire? Old white billionaires? I think that they can do without me. The standout track has to be Power Trip though; the fantastic blend of featured artist Miguels crooning and J. Coles sarcastic raps makes for compelling listening indeed.
