2. Red Hot Chili Peppers

When looking through the best of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' catalog, you get to know the scar collection of every single one of these men. Outside of the more straightforward funk rock going on, the more poignant sides of Anthony Kiedis' words show that these guys have lived more lifetimes than most other rockstars would care to admit. If there was ever a time when things started to look grim though, it came at the expense of one of the greatest guitarists of the '90s.

Not really being all that comfortable with the sudden rush of fame coming off of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, John Frusciante abruptly quit the Chili Peppers after the accompanying tour, going into a haze of obscure solo projects and the throes of heroin addiction. Though One Hot Minute at least showed the Peppers' energy to a tee, you could tell that something was missing whenever you were looking for Frusciante style flash.

After a brief stint with Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction out front, Kiedis eventually made amends with Frusciante and worked him back to health, where he turned in a melodic performance for the ages on Californication.
