All witty words and stately piano, Busby Berkeley Dreams marries the teenage melodrama of The Smiths with the grandeur of golden age Hollywood. Except that Morrissey would never have found himself in a position where he could refuse to grant a divorce. He’s more the perennial bridesmaid type.

This song, with its self-consciously clever wordplay, is one of the album’s best lyrically. It’s also a real joy to belt out in the shower at top volume. Particularly after a break up. Presumably.
