Upon listening to Jeff Buckley for the first time, most people are stunned into silence. In a time when many singers were opting for a brazen rock-radio sound, Jeff was searching deeper for inspiration. For him, it wasnt enough to sound good. It had to sound artistic. Many have followed this most admirable sentiment only to end up with utter failure, but not Jeff. His astonishing range, tone, lung capacity and vocal acrobatics are so dazzling that his performances required no light shows, dance moves, videos or other distractions. His voice visited Robert Plants bravado, Jim Morrisons mysticism, Freddie Mercurys virtuosity and his own fathers wonderful tone, but its the unique top end vocal nuances that can be heard throughout Grace that really set Jeff apart, winning him critical acclaim and accolades from the likes of Paul McCartney.
