10 Hidden Details In Hard Rock Tracks You Never Noticed

3. Slayer's Subliminal "Join Us" On Hell Awaits

From the minute that Slayer arrived on the heavy metal scene, they seemed to be every parent's worst nightmare. Whether it was the satanic imagery present in their artwork or the screaming vocals of Tom Araya, this band wrote the type of songs that could make even the most easygoing adult jump out of their skin.

Knowing their growing reputation as the demonic kings of thrash, the band doubled down on their more devillish themes when they released their sophomore album Hell Awaits. While the album is another 80's thrasher from front to back, there is a little detail present in the title track. In a slight jab at the religious fanatics who were condemning them, the band included a bit of backwards recording at the start of the record.

Most Slayer fans hear this ominous low voice whispering nonsense, but the subject matter gets even more sinister once you played the record in reverse. The actual recorded message on the track is saying "Join Us," as if to lure the listener into their forthcoming descent into Hell. With this one track, Slayer went from being just another disapproved metal band to the thrash metal kings of demonic mayhem.
