10 Huge Songs You Wrongly Thought Got To Number One

3. Eminem Feat Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie

'Love The Way You Lie' was a track that could have gone either way upon release. When a song's content is flooded with dark themes of domestic violence, regret and pain, it's a gamble to say the least. Fortunately the content was handled with care and it never amounted into anything cliché or stereotypical. It didn't glorify the negative aspects of what it was highlighting and went on to be a smash hit around the world. What with Rihanna's very public encounter of abuse with her ex Chris Brown, 'Love The Way You Lie' was a way of showing her side of the situation. This allowed us to see a much more fragile Rihanna and her voice perfectly conveys the frustration and heartache of the situation. Eminem juxtaposes Rihanna's delicacy with a fast paced and brutal chorus. He's is at his best here with clever wordplay on lyrics such as "Now you have to watch her leave out the window, guess that's why they call it window pane", these raw and harsh lyrics are spat at the listener with an emotional punch. 'Love The Way You Lie' was actually the best selling single of 2010 and managed to claim that crown without ever getting to number one. They say lightning doesn't strike twice but Eminem and Rihanna rejoined a second time in 2013 and delivered the popular 'The Monster' which garnered them their first collaborative number one in the UK.
