10 Metal Cover Songs That Sound Nothing Like The Original

8. Here Comes the Sun - Ghost

Throughout the metal community, there has always been the debate as to whether Ghost even fits in the realm of metal. Though the actual aesthetic of these ghastly figures skulking around the stage checks out for metal, the chamber music of their early days and radio friendly sound of today seem like the furthest thing from something like Meshuggah or Pantera. When they want to get dark though, they made something truly disturbed out of one of the greatest bands of all time.

Taking The Beatles' classic Here Comes the Sun back to canvas, Ghost's take on it is something much more grandiose and haunting than the original could ever hope to be. Almost rewriting the melody altogether, Tobias Forge's interpretation of the sun rising over the bend coats the entire track in a sense of dread, almost like you've been transported down a back alley where things are about to go south really quick.

Functioning as an alternate ending to Ghost's debut, this was just the start of their impressive streak with shocking cover songs, eventually going on to cover everyone from Abba to Depeche Mode to suit their warped vision of rock and roll. Whereas George Harrison may have spoken of the joys of the new day, this is the official soundtrack to the Day of Black Sun.
