10 Modern Classics By Old Bands

6. Caravan - Rush

As the millennium opened up, it seemed that Rush was gaining more admiration in the public eye. With their songs being featured in movies like I Love You, Man and the band later being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Rush's moment in the sun was coming around again.

In 2013, the band came out of the studio with Clockwork Angels, their first full concept album, with an opening track that knocked listeners out of their seat. "Caravan" starts off with bass chords that pull you in before exploding with intense guitars and a fiery drum performance by Neil Peart. As the song gets going, Alex Lifeson's guitar switches between chords and effects-laden atmospherics to glorious effect while bassist Geddy Lee annihilates his four-string throughout the song's two bass solos.

The lyrics do a great job of standing on their own while also setting up the scene for the album's steam-punk epic. As this record became the band's swansong after their retirement in 2015, "Caravan" showed Rush fans that the band went out with all guns blazing.
