10. Krist Novoselic - Nirvana

There's not too much that needs to be said about Nirvana that hasn't been said by millions of rock fans already. Ever since Smells Like Teen Spirit first graced the airwaves back in 1991, the reverberations of this little power trio from Seattle have been echoing for years. With all of that legendary status, how is it possible that Krist Novoselic still goes under the radar?

Granted, the man definitely had some stiff competition in his own band by playing off of both Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl. On the other hand, Novoselic's basslines are really the glue that holds the entire track together at the best of times. When you listen to some of the deep cuts like On a Plain, you can really hear him playing around with the melody lines to create something that can only be described as alternative.

His work isn't tied to odds and ends though, with Heart Shaped Box being one of the greatest examples of making the bass growl, going into full-on chords to match the intensity of the others. Even when the band strips everything back, Novoselic is always right where you need him giving a smooth pulse to the rest of the track. While Dave Grohl may have been the secondary musical force in the group, once you put on Krist's basslines, it's the sound of Nirvana.
