The Essex lads return this year was a welcome one with the driving beats and nausea induced sounds that have made them such a force to be reckoned with in the dance scene for the past twenty-five years. Never ones to shy away from the dark side of music, lead single 'Nasty' perfectly exemplifies the sinister undertones prevalent in so much of their work. It is a hyped up, overtly dark, electronic cruiser that is based around a creeping synthetic guitar riff combined with urgent break-beat drumming, further complimented by Flint's rebellious vocals. There isn't much to it lyrically, instead it opts to draw the focus to the hard-hitting, rip roaring musical qualities contained within. Flint seems too be railing against the increasing Orwellian mentality that the internet has produced with lyrics like "Nasty, nasty, triple x-rated. Nasty, nasty, justice a waste pit", creating a sense of uneasiness drawn from recent scandals like the NSA and Wikileaks. 'Nasty' feels like a rebirth of sorts for the vicious three, one that exhibits their love for gargantuan, steam rolling bangers.
