10 Musicians Who Came Back From Huge Band Breakups
3. Noel Gallagher - Oasis
Noel Gallagher was always going to be the only one who could fully break up Oasis. He was the one who wrote all those classic songs in the '90s, and the split with the band ended just how everyone would have expected, with one too many arguments with his brother Liam and Noel finally wanting a break. He had never intended on turning things into a solo career, but his knack for songwriting never fully left him once he left his band behind.
Looking to record some of the tunes that he had ben stockpiling, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds turned into something much more grandiose than the raw rock and roll coming out of Oasis' later years, having an almost orchestral slant to songs like If I Had a Gun and Everybody's On the Run. Though Liam's voice was sorely missed on some of these tracks, there was a new sense of melody with Noel's voice, as if he was finally free from hiding behind his guitar for all those years and was now getting to express himself to the rest of the world.
Noel has never really looked back from his debut solo release either, looking to push himself forward creatively in whatever way he knows how, from making songs that are more in line with his acoustic ballads like Dead in the Water or making records that seem to be focusing more on the soundscapes behind the songs like on Who Built the Moon?. He might like to proclaim his musical genius to anyone within earshot, but there's hardly an argument to be made when you hear what he's coming out with.
