10 Overlooked Extreme Metal Albums From 2013

5. Obsidian Tongue - A Nest of Ravens In The Throat Of Time (Hypnotic Dirge Records)

http://youtu.be/Kym4PoL9IMw The Lowdown: Whether it's due to the whole 'shoegaze' or 'cascadian black metal' backlash or the release on a tiny independent Canadian label, or guitarist/vocalist Brendan Hayter involvement in other projects like Thrawsunblat and Woods of Ypres, I literally did not see a single review or word about Obsidian Tongue's second album in any of my usual haunts. Despite general reverence for similar sound bands like Wolves in the Throne Room, Agalloch (whose Jon Haughm delivers guest vocals on this album), Falls of Rauros, Vattnet Viskar and such, Obsidian Tongue were invisible in 2013 despite this fantastic, thoughtful and introspective album. Recommended If You Like: Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room, Vattnet Viskar
