10 Songs We All Know The Words To (But Wish We Didn't)

8. Hit Me Baby One More Time €“ Britney Spears

The end of the 90s was defined by many things, but mostly it was defined by the introduction of Britney Spears; the bouncy all-American blonde, innocent girl who made her debut with Hit Me Baby One More Time. The song begins with the famous three piano notes and €œoh baby, baby€ the repetition of this is almost as well known as the song itself. It seems that €œbaby baby€-Britney would now be the go-to girl for teen music with her iconic video; dressed in school wear with massive fluffy pink bobbles and pig-tails, it created the sweet-girl-innocence the song was looking for. Because really, what does Hit Me Baby One More Time really mean? Domestic abuse? Giving her another €˜hit€™ of sex, or heroin? Because as she states in the chorus she is €œlosing her mind€, and if she knew she was going to be without her €˜hit€™ she would not have let it go€like some masochistic drug addict. Of course because some sweet American-blonde wearing pink - like some future Miss America €“ is saying this, we are supposed to think she is talking about love (she probably is). With 93 million YouTube views and 10 million copies sold worldwide, the video was a very big reason for its success. After all who can argue with a €˜Catholic€™ schoolgirl in pigtails with her stomach and bra on show?
