With a career spanning 60 plus years and showing no signs of slowing down, Dylan can lay claim to being one of the most prolific American songwriters of all time. He has even influenced a later entry on this list.

With such amazing songs as Mr. Tambourine Man, Tangled Up in Blue and Maggie’s Farm, Bob Dylan’s highest charting efforts came in 1965’s Like a Rolling Stone and 1966’s Rainy Day Women both of which peaked at number 2.

He also has the distinction of being the only act on this list to reach the number 2 spot twice.
