Marina's stardom is unsurprisingly often lumped in with other female singers (being a female singer herself, you could say it's almost inevitable). While she's found this almost 'irrelevant' to her cause with all these others singers being good, she has often wished her sex was different. She told Wonderland: "I wish I was a boy though. It would be so much easier. It frustrates me that the fact we are females gets more press than anything to do with the music" Marina went through a phase of looking pretty dulled down and wearing pyjamas on stage because she wanted to 'boy herself down'. Once, a stylist said to her, "You have to look good all the time, Marina" and she replied, "No I don't, I'm not a supermodel!" While this was prior to the release of Electra Heart, her advice at the time was: "Make yourself look ugly and boyish".
