Smith's mother would often get Sam to perform at dinner parties when he was younger; which he believes has given him an 'old head'. He'd often perform musical numbers for guests, and on other occasions tell stories. He said: "At ten years old that is quite daunting, to chat to a whole table of adults and hold your own.
