10 Timeless Thought-Provoking Concept Albums

When concept work is done candidly it can lead to some of the most pivotal works of an entire career.

Introducing a predominant theme or concept into a work of music is something which takes much care and deliberation. Over the years since the reawakening of the global musical consciousness in the mid-20th century, many have tried and almost as many have failed to produce their own body of outstanding concept work. When done candidly it can lead to some of the most pivotal works of an entire career. When done disingenuously, it can put a blunt and painful end to an otherwise commendable run in one of our world's most petulant popular cultural industries. For this list we're going to focus on bodies of work that possess an unquestionable level of sustained sincerity. It's just as well really, as I'd hate to undo the many years of hard work I've put into ridding myself of the memory of Billy Idols shambolic 'Cyber Punk', or more recently Lou Reed (rest his one-mistake in a nigh-on 50 year long career making soul) & Metallica's 'Lulu'.
