10 Weirdest Replacement Members In Rock History

2. Joe Walsh - Eagles

When the Eagles first got the ball rolling, was it even fair to really call them a rock band? From the sound of songs like Take It Easy, they certainly had the guitar chops, but the soft ballads put them more into pop and folk territory more often than not. After one too many sparring sessions with Bernie Leadon though, they took a wild left turn by bringing Joe Walsh into the mix.

Since Joe had already had his own success with his solo career and with James Gang, his guitar chops were a lot more bluesy compared to Leadon's, who was always more of a fan of the styles of bluegrass and country on albums like Desperado. Along with Bernie's vocals being gone, Walsh's squawky delivery was also a change of pace, being a lot more to get used to compared to Don Henley's bulletproof voice.

On Hotel California though, the Eagles got a lot more credit as rock and rollers this time around, with Walsh and Don Felder playing circles around each other at every opportunity and turning into a lean mean rock and roll band whenever they took to the road. Outside of the royalties they were getting, Joe also earned them respect as rock and roll wild men, oftentimes getting more and more out of hand when it came time to trash hotel rooms. You may have had to make some sacrifices along the way, but this version of the Eagles was about to kick some ass.
