10 Worst Genre Switches In Rock Music History

3. Generation Swine - Motley Crue

As the '80s wore on, Motley Crue seemed to finally be hitting their stride towards the end of the decade. After being the kings of Sunset for most of their career, they finally nailed their sound down to a science on Dr. Feelgood, with every band member giving it their all and getting a lot heavier in their later age. And then Vince Neil left...and things started to get really weird.

Although time has come around on the Crue's Neil-less self titled album, the same can't be said for when Vince finally returned on the album Generation Swine. Coming right after the grunge explosion, this half hearted attempt at industrial rock just feels like anger for the sake of being angry instead of a genuine emotional connection. For the 4 people who wanted to hear Motley Crue be Nine Inch Nails though, there are only a handful of tracks where the style really works, with the rest of the album feeling like the soundtrack to a really skeazy adult film.

As if the actual music wasn't the worst shift in tone, the band actually does us one better and actually redoes one of their classic songs Shout at the Devil in the style as well, making for a remix no one wanted. Since the original pivot didn't work, you don't need to remind us of your better songs that we could be listening to instead.
