12 Unbelievably Underrated Beatles Tracks
12. I'm Only Sleeping (Revolver)
"I'm Only Sleeping" genuinely makes you feel like you've just woken up, gone to bed, or in the middle of a deep, substantial snooze.
The song was written in homage to Lennon's love of sleeping. It was said that Lennon initially wrote the track on the back of a letter in which he notes how staying in bed and sleeping is much better than any high he can get from a drug. In fact, Lennon was such a big napper that the rest of the band had to wake him up when it was time to rehearse or write music.
It's shame because "I'm Only Sleeping" doesn't quite get the praise that it deserves which is surprising considering it features George Harrison's unique and distinctive backward guitar sounds. To make matters worse, the song appears on an album that wowed the world upon its release. An album that had songs such as "Eleanor Rigby" and "Here, There And Everywhere." An album that included another quirky reverse number, "Tomorrow Never Knows."
You can see why it got a little left behind.
