With a staggering forty official members in the band over the years, Whitesnake have almost become a rock n' roll punchline, but were still considered relevant enough to make VH1's Top 100 Rock Bands of all time. Formed by David Coverdale in 1978 after his departure from Deep Purple, he would go on a number of hiatuses and once folded the band completely for several years - meaning the time window in which those forty members, including Steve Vai, Vivian Campbell and many others - came and went was even shorter! Still not done with the revolving door process, Whitesnake's most recent lineup change came in August 2014 when former Nightwish guitarist Joel Hoekstra joined the band.
