Concert movies have a lot to answer for - particularly given how popular they are with pop bands seeking a quick buck - but in teaming up with Nimrod Antals untamed imagination, Metallica created something that was both artistically significant and a brilliant live performance in itself. Despite all of the narrative framing - that was more spirit-led than traditionally storied - Through The Nevers success came down to the blistering live performance by the band, polished up by the cinematic experience of course. It might not seem like a truly authentic live experience, but the scope and scale of the set, and the power of the bands presence combine to make this a uniquely appealing experience for all Metallica live fans.
