13 Greatest Ever Metallica Live Performances

5. The Black Album In Full - Download Festival 2012

More than 20 years after releasing their eponymous fifth album, the thrash metal band returned to Donington to play the album in full for an enraptured 100,000 crowd who understandably ignored the false claims for attention from YouMeAtSix to see the classic album relived. Inevitably, the performance was slick and almost second nature - honed on two decades of playing - as the band swaggered their way through not only the album but a selection of crowd-pleasing classics like €œFor Whom The Bell Tolls€, €œHit The Lights€ and €œMaster of Puppets€, and a live debut of €œHell and Back€ from Beyond Magnetic. As usual, the album was played in reverse, before non-album classics returned with rabble-rousing €œBattery€, €œOne€ and €œSeek and Destroy€ performances with some suitably exciting fireworks. In short, it was close to flawless, with Hetfield in particular on fine form at the front.
