"Oscillate Wildly" is one of a very small number of Smiths tracks that tends to get a bad rap from lots of folk because... well, it's just this strange, contextless little instrumental - one that is neither memorable nor offensive. It's just there. It doesn't feature any vocals by Morrissey. It doesn't really even sound like anything Johnny Marr would write. It's odd. The title of the track is an obvious play on words regarding Morrissey's favourite writer and personal hero (Oscar Wilde, in case you missed that one for some reason), which is probably the most interesting thing about the whole track. Still, lots of casual Smiths fans tend to write this off as some kind of horrific abomination intent on spoiling the Smiths canon. In reality, it's not even worth getting all that worked up over. A true fan knows that Oscillate Wildly is just fine. Fine.
