2014 is already underway and looking set to be one of the most impressive years for music fans of the 21st century. With already-confirmed new releases from artists such as Morrissey and Palma Violets, it seems a rock resurgence is definitely on its way to overthrow the vicious dictatorship of mindless pop music that has been decimating the charts of recent years. This musical upheaval has been longed for by many for years now, with it seemingly beginning to come into fruition almost exactly a year ago with a return from the Thin White Duke himself (David Bowie) and his first album in ten years "The Next Day". Alongside this was stellar new albums from Primal Scream (More Light), Queens of the Stone Age (...Like Clockwork) as well as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (Push the Sky Away), which wowed the public and critics alike. However, whilst these may be fairly conventional rock releases, last year also proved we still have room for a lighter style of music within the industry, and that pop shouldn't any longer be synonymous with the horrific boy bands and teen stars it has been responsible for lately. No, last year saw Kanye West releasing the (horrifically self-indulgent) undeniably-entertaining Yeezus, Daft Punk created the most loved song in years with Get Lucky (a song still sung inadvertently to this day) and Disclosure whose debut (Settle) was one of the most important albums of last year, with infectious beats and a musical deepness, which appealed to those who wouldn't normally give house music the time of day. But this article won't continue to simply relive past glories! We'll move now onto what the future holds for music fans in what is destined to be one of the most rewarding periods of time to be alive.
