15 Awesome Albums To Put Down Cynics Of 21st Century Music

By Andrew Simon Noel /

11. The White Stripes - Elephant - 2003

After 3 successful cult albums, Jack and Meg White finally broke out on the mainstream scene in 2003. Brimming with punky, blues rock, the due were surrounded by an air of mystery about their past, which attracted almost as much as attention as their music, which was critically lauded. 'Seven Nation Army' became a classic song over night, for its distinctive bass line (actually played on a guitar) and primal drums, and is almost impossible to dislike. Elsewhere, The White Stripes show their energy in songs like 'The Hardest Button to Button' and 'Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine' and also cover Dusty Springfield on 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself'. 'Elephant' is not only acknowledged as a modern classic, but is perfect for Blues fans of any era, old or young.
