1. Words Darker Than Their Wings

Quite possibly the greatest piece of music the band have ever written, Words Darker Than Their Wings sees Myles and Mark tackle the notion of faith and believing in a higher power. Such a topic has divided thousands of us, but it's done with such insight and thought-provoking sentiment, that it really makes the track a standout for the band's entire career.

Seeing Mark take lead vocals for the first time on any Alter Bridge song, he and Myles alternate lines as the believer and non-believer respectively, unifying on the chorus and singing "Into the light may you follow, into the light may you know truth alone", stating that whichever side you take, it's only at the very end of life that we'll get anything approximating answers.

The lyrics alone are worth re-listening to over and over, and as if that wasn't enough, the close of the track features one of Myles' highest ever recorded notes. Sublime.
