10. Cobalt – Slow Forever

Cobalt’s ‘Beast Whip’ was one of our picks for best heavy metal song of 2016, and unsurprisingly, the album from which it was spawned also deserves praise for its uncompromisingly heavy approach.

There’s honestly not much to fault on this goliath slab of metal – it has it all; gullet severing vocals, beastly basslines, raging riffs and a sonically explosive production that just puts the icing on top of this seismic cake.

The band effortlessly hit their stride on the aforementioned ‘Beast Whip’, the wasteland monster ‘Hunt The Buffalo’ and the disorientating bruiser 'Siege.' If this record doesn’t get your blood pumping, nothing will.
