8. Coal Chamber – Fiend
Coal Chamber shot to nu-metal fame with a killer debut album and the management savvy of Sharon Osbourne, wife of the Prince of Darkness himself Ozzy Osbourne. Despite that initial heady rise to stardom, the gothic-tinged four-piece decided to go their separate ways after third album Dark Days. However, they made sure to leave behind one hell of a lead single before departing in the form of ‘Fiend.’
As always, band wildcard Dez Fafara stamps his unique vocal authority onto the track with the tongue-rolling delivery found on the chorus, giving this murky cut an identity that just can’t be found anywhere else in the sub-genre. But the rest of the band are no slouches either, providing the pierced performer with plenty of downtuned riffage and crashing cymbals to rail over the top of.
The critics were unfairly harsh on Dark Days, but don’t let that stop you from blasting album highlight ‘Fiend’ until your black heart’s content.
