Do yourself a favour. Listen. Don't let their name fool you. The Slackers combine ska, jazz and the blues in what can be described as aural heaven. And at 22 years of age, they are also the oldest band on this list. Boasting 13 studio albums, it is hard to do them justice in a paragraph, but I'll try. Despite the apparently niche market they occupy in the indie music scene, I could never understand how The Slackers hadn't reached the musical stratosphere; the talent and musical proficiency that they display is far above that of the normal indie musician, and while I'm not trying to excessively plug them (too late?), they deserve a level of respect, especially considering they tour prolifically. If you're even halfway interested in ska, and see a poster for this little gem in your town, then remember this writer's wisdom(?) and get yourself down there.
