Made by British guitar builder Brian Eastwood, the Bender Distortocaster was a limited run of instruments in the early to mid 90s that has stayed in the consciousness of the guitar-playing public ever since. Essentially, Eastwood built a guitar that looked like someone had melted a Fender Stratocaster and in doing so, created his own iconic guitars that change hands for serious money if you're lucky enough to spot one for sale.Each of the Distortocasters made were slightly different in some way, forming the 'distorted' aesthetic with the layout of the frets or even just the paint job and look of it. Most of them featured slightly fanned frets, maple necks and the standard Strat single coil pickup configuration alongside a body that hugs against your own when you play it sitting down. Despite it's bizarre shape, most people who have played Distortocasters point out that it plays no differently to a Strat and in some cases can even play and sound better than the genuine article of Fender. As collector's items they have become highly desirable and can easily change hands for over $4000 for a good quality model.
